With its increased focus on the mid-range and entry-level smartphone segments, Samsung is replacing its current Galaxy J smartphone series with the refurbished Galaxy A series. The updated Samsung Galaxy A70 line includes a modern design with updated software. The Seoul-based company has already introduced almost its entire Galaxy A line for the first half of this year, ranging from the star product Samsung Galaxy A80 to the affordable Samsung Galaxy A10.

The Samsung Galaxy A70, which was originally introduced last month, now also has an international release date. The phone is ready to start reaching markets on April 26. At the Galaxy A 80 launch event, I spent some time with the Samsung A 70, here my first impressions of the smartphone.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy A80, which is a understandable divergence from the design language of the updated Galaxy A series, the Galaxy A70 looks and feels similar to other A series phones such as the Galaxy A50. The phone features a water-drop style notch and a large 6.7-inch full-HD + (1080×2400 pixels) Super AMOLED screen with an aspect ratio of 20:9.

The Galaxy A70 features what Samsung calls a "3D Glasstic" design, which makes it look like the phone has a glass backing, but it's actually just plastic. As a result, although the phone looks good from a distance, it doesn't feel as premium in the hand as a real glass-backed phone like the Galaxy A80. That said, the design is still stylish and the plastic body makes the phone relatively lightweight.

Like most other Samsung phones, the Galaxy A70's screen is vibrant with vivid, pleasing colors. The company has also included an optical fingerprint sensor on the screen, as well as face unlock support on the phone for biometric authentication.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A70 contains Qualcomm's SoC Snapdragon 675, which we've already seen on models like the Vivo V15 Pro. and Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphones. In addition, the Galaxy A70 includes 6GB or 8GB of RAM, as well as 128GB of on-board storage. In our brief use, we find that the phone is quite agile and responsive. There is also a micro SD slot for more expansion.

The camera capabilities are a great highlight of the Samsung Galaxy A70 and there is an integrated triple rear camera configuration that houses a 32 megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 lens, an 8 megapixel secondary sensor with an ultrawide angle (123 (degree) f/2.2 and a 5 megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.2. The company has also included a 32 megapixel front trigger for selfies with an f/2.0 lens. We did not have the opportunity to test the image cuts of the phone during our hands, but we will surely test the phone camera during our review.

Among other features, the Samsung Galaxy A70 comes with a 4,500mAh battery that should last more than a day for most users, although we hope to test it during our review process. In addition, the phone supports super fast charging at 25W.

With the Samsung Galaxy A70, you'll also get dual SIM support with two dedicated SIM card slots, as well as 4G LTE and the usual set of connectivity options. There is a 3.5mm audio connector and an on-board USB Type C port as well. Samsung says it will sell four color variants of the Galaxy A70: Coral, Blue, Black and White, but it is not clear which one will reach the European market.

In terms of software, the Galaxy A70 is in line with other phones in the Galaxy A series with the presence of Android 9 Foot with a user interface. You'll get the usual One UI features like Knox integration, one-handed navigation, night mode, Samsung Health and more. The software is quite smooth and showed no signs of delay during our limited interaction with the phone.
