Pros and Cons of Recovered Milk

However, milk powder itself is not harmful or dangerous (unless it is falsified and contains hazardous substances such as melamine). This is preserved milk from which water has been extracted (dried), and can be stored for up to one year in this form and take up little space. It is very convenient and is used for transportation over long distances and to form reserves.

Dried milk is mainly used in regions with undeveloped animal husbandry, and also fills in the lack of raw milk in a period of high demand for finished dairy products while reducing the production of raw milk.

Raw milk production and demand for finished products are seasonal in nature, and these seasons are different - in summer, a lot of raw milk is produced, and demand for products falls, in winter, all the opposite. Dried milk levels these fluctuations. In addition, dried milk is used in the confectionery industry and is used in the dairy industry to enrich dairy products with dairy components - to increase the composition of milk powder products, while increasing the nutritional value of these products and giving distinctive organoleptic properties - thicker products.

Negative sides of the use of dried milk

Negative sides of the use of dried milk are manifested in the economic plane and in the possible harm to human health products containing dangerous substances. From an economic point of view, there was a time when bringing and using dried milk from regions of the world (e.g. New Zealand) with highly developed and profitable animal husbandry was even more profitable than using domestic raw natural milk. Now, with currency exchange rates, this may have become less profitable, but the world prices of milk and, consequently, milk products are decreasing - but butter, cheese and, of course, dried milk are becoming cheaper. In addition, this product is often falsified when it is mixed with cheaper components, such as whey powder, and in some cases comes to dangerous components.

More recently, the melamine scandal with Chinese dried milk has been a cause of concern when it was discovered that some manufacturers had been adding a hazardous substance to their products to increase the perceived concentration of protein, resulting in mass poisoning of children and several fatal accidents.

Thus, controlled production and use of domestic dried milk powder in the dairy industry can improve the economy by balancing supply and demand, but natural fresh milk and its products are still more useful to the body and are rightly considered the best. The buyer, however, must have an idea of what product he or she buys and of what raw material it is made of.
